Managing Your Site Posts and Pages

Adding a blog to your website is a smart way to communicate with your audience. Not only it can help you increase your search engine traffic, improve leads, and conversion rates but it’s also a way of building authority and establishing your brand or yourself as an expert in your field.

Yet, a lot of times it makes sense to keep your home page separate and find another page within your website to bring on your blog action. The “Posts” dedicated section of your website admin dashboard can help with this.

What are Posts and Pages?

There is a difference between posts and pages, based on their functionalities.

Posts

These are time-specific content items, usually regularly added to make the website relevant and engaging. Posts are usually sorted in chronological order and listed into categories and tags, to be easily found by search engines.

You can also add links, videos, quotes and other types of media to your posts. This is how the posts list screen looks like on your Avoori website.

Clicking on Add New, will allow you to create a new post for your website.

Pages

Pages are the more permanent components of your site, as for instance the About page. You can’t assign tags to your pages but you are able to organize them into hierarchies, by grouping pages under others. Creating a posts page is a way to keep your blogging organized.

You can also set an archive page to place all your past blog posts, making it easy to keep track of them. It’s possible to archive posts by date, topic, author or any other criteria you want.

Clicking on Add New, will allow you to create a new page for your website.

Creating a Posts Page

Although it’s possible to include a blog posts area directly into your home page, sometimes you could benefit from keeping your blog on a distinct page. You might opt for this possibility if you are trying to clean the clutter and increase the readability of your website so that your visitors are more likely to come back. It can also improve your SEO and help users to more easily find and share your posts.

You can create a customized posts page.

You can create a page with a layout that doesn’t jeopardize your chosen design and that creates a good first impression for all visitors who find your website through this blog page.

Steps to Create a Posts Page

This is how you can set up your separate blog page for your website.

Step 1: Add a new page

Access the menu and click on the Pages button and then on Add New. Name the page Blog or whichever name you feel that fits right for the new page you just added and click Publish to add this page to your website.

Step 2: Change the Home Page Settings

Now you need to set the page where your posts will automatically appear. To set this setting for the Blog page you just created, on the admin menu, click on Appearance and then Customize, in the menu. Here, click on General-> Homepage Settings.

You can set your homepage to display a static page and get the option to choose the Blog page as the destination of your posts. Hit Publish to save your changes.

Step 3: Add the Blog Page to a Menu

To add your new blog page to the navigation menu to help visitors to find it, go again to Appearance-> Customize, click on the Menus tab and select the applicable menu from the list. Click the Add Items button and add your Blog page to the menu. Don’t forget to hit Publish.

Last Remarks

Creating a dedicated blog page can be a great way to reach new visitors and structure your blog contents. It could be useful to keep it separate from your homepage, which you might want to reserve for more important business or contact information.
