Just like you add widgets to the sidebar, you are able to add your preferred widgets in the footer as well. Widgets can help to quickly offer insightful information to users without having to code anything.
For example, you may want to add a text widget to write an about section in the footer. You can also want to use a Flickr widget to display relevant photos.
There are dozens of widgets to play with and these configurations will help you make most out of your footer widgets.
Navigate to your website admin, browse to Appearance > Customize > Sidebar.
Enable Footer Widgets
You will have to enable the footer widgets first to be able to see them on the site as you add and save them. To enable it, just click over the checkbox next to “Enable Footer Widgets” in the Footer Widgets panel.
You can choose to specifically hide footer widgets on certain mediums. Following are the four options provided for you to choose from
- Show on All Devices
- To enable the footer widgets to display on all mediums
- Hide on Tablet
- To specifically hide footer widgets on tablets
- Hide on Mobile
- To hide footer widgets for mobile users
- Hide on Tablet and Mobile
- To hide the footer widgets for both mobile and tablets
To select any of the given options, just click over the dropdown under the “Visibility” tab in Footer Widgets panel to choose.
The following option adds some height to your content to keep your footer at the bottom of the page.
You can either choose to turn the option on or off to enable or disable fixed footer. Just choose the respective option under the “Fixed Footer” label in the Footer Widgets panel to configure.
Parallax Footer Effect
A parallax effect looks great and considered for most modern sites. It basically creates an illusion of depth, as the background images move slower than the foreground as you scroll.
Just click over the button available under the “Parallax Footer Effect” label in the Footer Widgets panel to enable it.
You may want to add multiple footer widget columns right before the footer bottom area where the copyright is shown. You can add up to 4 columns next to each other that is auto-aligned to look perfect.
You will be able to add as many different widgets as you prefer in each of the four columns.
Just use the slider under the “Column” label in the Footer Widgets panel to increase or decrease the number of columns for the footer widgets.
Adding a container streamlines the widgets areas to align in the center, in alignment with the content area above.
Just click over the checkbox next to the “Add Container” in the Footer Widgets panel to add a container.
The padding space can be changed from the top, right, bottom, and left section respectively of footer widgets.
There are four inputs provided in same order under the “Padding (px)” label in Footer Widgets panel to change the padding for each.
The last chain icon links these inputs together, in such a way that if you click it and change any input. Other inputs will be updated accordingly.
The background color for the footer widgets area can easily be changed as well.
Just click over the “Select Color” button under the “Background Color” label in Footer Widgets panel to do it.
It’s just as easy as it can get to change the text color for the footer widgets section too.
Please click over the “Select Color” button under the “Text Color” label in Footer Widgets panel to change it.
Changing the border may suit your design and requirements better. In that case, just click over the “Select Color” button under the “Borders Color” button in Footer Widgets panel to change the border color.
If you want to change the color of the links that display within the footer widgets, you can do it using this configuration.
Simply click over the “Select Color” button under the “Links Color” label in Footer Widgets panel to choose the desired color.
Links Color: Hover
If you want the color of the links to change when someone hovers (mouseover) over it, you can use this option to configure it.
Simply click over the “Select Color” button under the “Links Color: Hover” label in Footer Widgets panel to choose the desired color. This activates the hover color for links within the footer widgets section.
Enable Custom Footer Widgets Layout
You may want to add a custom layout to the footer widgets section. Adding one isn’t difficult at all. Just click over the checkbox next to the “Enable Custom Footer Widgets Layout” to enable the custom layouts options.
Secondly, choose any of your custom layouts from the dropdown menu under the “Select Layout” label right underneath to implement it.
