Customizing the Website Footer Menu Text Typography

Don’t let the footer perception take away the configuration importance for the footer menu. Just because the footer comes at the end, doesn’t mean users look less at it.

In fact, the most useful pages are often found in the footer menu. Pages such as the advertising, about, press releases, affiliates, community, legal, FAQ pages and many more!

So you must make the footer menu readable, easy on eyes, distinct yet clean and all in all pretty accessible. Some of these configurations below will help you to make a difference.

Navigate to your website admin, browse to Appearance > Customize > Typography> Footer Menu.

Setting the Fonts for the Footer Menu

As they say, all is well that ends well.  It couldn’t be any truer in case of Footer Menu. The right font can set the right last impression.

Just click over the drop-down menu underneath the “Font Family” in Footer Menu panel to choose from the available fonts.

Set the Font Weights for Footer Menu

The font weight will make the footer menu either bolder or thinner. Font weight is an HTML property that uses numbers from 100 (thinnest) to 900 (boldest) usually with an increment of 100 in between each.

Following are the available font-weight options you get: 

Thin: 100

Light: 200

Book: 300

Normal: 400

Medium: 500

Semibold: 600

Bold: 700

Extrabold: 800

Black: 900

Every font is not supported by all the font weights. But given the variety of options, you will not fall short font that does support the font weights.

Set the Font Style for Footer Menu

You can make your footer menu text either follow a standard format or make it italic.

Just click over the drop-down right beneath the “Font Style” label in Footer Menu panel to choose a setting.

To Set the Text Transform Property for Footer Menu 

Text-transform is an HTML property that lets you transform your text in the following way

  • Capitalize
    • It capitalizes the first letter of each word.
  • Lowercase
    • It converts all the letters to lowercase
  • Uppercase
    • It converts all the letters to uppercase
  • None
    • It doesn’t do anything, keeps your text as it is just the way you have written it.

You can choose any of these four options by clicking over the drop-down underneath “Text Transform” in Footer Menu panel.

Change the Font Size for Footer Menu

You can easily use the slider under the “Font Size (px)” label in Footer Menu panel to increase or decrease the text size. You can preview the changes live using Theme Customizer to make your best judgment for what best suits your design and purpose.

You can choose to keep different font sizes for the desktop, tablet, and mobile. Simply click over the small gray color icon next to the label; it will expand it into three icons. First one is for the desktop font size, second for the tablet font size, and third for the mobile font size.

Change the Line Height for Footer Menu

The line height for the footer menu gives you vertical space (y-axis) around the menu items. You can either choose to increase or decrease the space around the menu to suit your design and needs.

The line height can easily be changed under the “Line Height” label in Footer Menu panel by using the given slider to make the changes.

You get the same three icons, as discussed above (under Font Size) for setting different line height for desktop, tablets, and mobile.

Change the Letter Spacing for Footer Menu

Letter spacing can be either increased or decreased to adjust the space in between font letters for the Footer Menu text.

Simply use the slider under the “Letter Spacing (px)” label in Footer Menu to make changes to the letter spacing.
